I have used a more expensive competitive product that had more features at 3 times the price. The Nikon Forestry pro has all the features I need without having to calibrate and consult the manual every time I use it. This unit is light weight, uses conventional inexpensive batteries and comes with an adequate soft case that can be used as travel carry inside another case or on the belt with a very clever fastener. It can be used for determining distances up or down slope and for figuring the height of buildings and trees on path.
Unless you need the features a surveyor might, the product is more than adequate, and superior to the typical sporting type rangefinders on the market. The Forestry Pro's LED screen on the side is very useful, and the clean crisp viewfinder display is right on target. I like the yellow color because if you set it down you can find it more easily.
I did have some trouble getting this product due to the high demand. The second order from Suppliers got me prompt and efficient delivery when the recommended supplier could not produce.

Exactly as advertised. Have already used it to take height measurements of several different objects, including large, tall trees, and found that it functions as well as I had hoped. I will be collecting height data on hundreds of trees over the next year and a half, age 25 to 35 years, as part of a major scientific tree growth study. My preliminary use of this instrument has made me realize and accept that getting tree height measurements will be infinitely easier, quicker and with more accuracy then I had originally anticipated. As a result, my research team is presently re-writing the methods part of our study to include considerably more height measurements of larger trees. At this point I am extremely pleased to be able to expand our study because of the acquisition of this measuring instrument.

I am a mobile crane operator, and I use this tool at least weekly if not daily. It helps me figure radius and boom length required for different situations. The best feature is the ability to show distances in feet. All of my crane charts are in feet, so there is no excess converting required. It is also very accurate. If I am going to work I don't leave home without it. I would say it's the most useful tool I have purchased as a crane operator.

In the solar business I need to measure tree heights on a daily basis. My measurements need to be fast and accurate. A job that used to take me 30min with marginal precision can now be done in 3min with high confidence. Durable and simple design. Works in low light situations. Automatic on/off. Superb battery life. Waterproof. This device paid for itself in the first week. In addition to height, the screen also shows the line of sight distance, as well as the horizontal distance, plus the angle. The laser echo does not work very well in the rain and some of the menu items are hard to remember without the instruction manual. Otherwise, this inclinometer exceeded my expiration.

This unit was priced considerably lower than some other units that we had previously used, so I was more than skeptical of the quality of product we were getting. After spending several hours of performing measurements on known pole heights from known elevations at max range (most were at 950-975'), the measurements by the range finder were always within a foot. Honestly, it's hard to hold the thing steady enough at max range for this to be an issue, so I'd have to highly recommend this unit.

This thing is awesome. It's great for simple distance measuring, as well as an inclinometer. I use it for measuring tree height in orchards, and for laying out rough pad dimensions in buildings. It's also great for rough elevations and slope on property if you have a fixed point to reference.

Needed a laser that was accurate and reliable enough to help me prevent taking power lines down when I cut some trees around my house. The Forestry Pro was very simple to use and allowed me to know within a foot where the tip of the tree would fall. Very pleased.

I am a electrical contractor. This item saves me steps. It will even pin point in on a single overhead wire. Well worth the money compared to the higher prices range finders.

Have not used all settings but works very well to gauge tree height in feet. Nice clear display and easy to use. Cost more than some others but was worth it. Would recommend to those looking to gauge heights of trees works well even on smaller branches. Have used on trees up to 80' so far.

At first, if you have not seen one before you'll be surprised how small this thing is. It looks and feels like a professionally made product. Accuracy checked and confirmed at 200 meters: dead on! Range? A distant structure read 498 meters; the device is rated at 500 meters max. Height measurement? Very cool feature, although I didn't have the chance yet to test that accurately.
Very happy.
